Possibly the Single Worst Concert Line up of all time

July 4th 2008 07:22
So I was catching the bus to work today and I noticed a poster for an upcoming concert. I always try to read these as sometimes there are good bands that I hadn't heard about touring. For example Gyroscope and Shihad are coming to Brisbane soon, I'll probably check that out.

But this poster nearly blew my mind. And not in the good way. Def Leppard with support from Cheap Trick. That's right, two of the worst bands of the 70s and 80s together again in 2008.

I have a long standing hatred of any band not named Led Zeppelin that spell's it's name intentionally wrong (I'm looking at you Linkin Park, Korn and Limp Bizzzzzkit), and Def Leppard has been a key proponent of such crappy band names. Not only that but their biggest song, their coup de grace, their magnum opus, is 'Pour Some Sugar on Me'

Pour Some Sugar On Me - Def Leppard

In case you didn't realise it, this is a terrible song. Fucking abhorent. I would prefer to crush lighbulbs into my ears than listen to that.

And Cheap Trick. Well, they are just plain shit. I can't explain how these people even got a record deal, let alone weren't euthanaised at birth. It's not punk, it's not rock, it's not really even pop. It's just rubbish. 'Surrender' is a terrible song, not only that but they apparently re-recorded the theme song to 'That 70's Show'. Now you know a band has falled from grace when they perform a TV show theme. And for the show, not in a cool cover kind of way.

Then I looked the tickets up on Ticketek to find out how much they were fobbing these peices of crap off for. I was shocked to discover that tickets ranged from $99, $129 and $149. That's how much I paid for a Chili Peppers concert. A band that actually has a number of enjoyable songs and has a fan base outside that wasn't so incredibly stoned that they were swindled into enjoying the music....well that's up for debate I guess.

Sorry to fans of these two abominations to God, but I'm having trouble even thinking of a line up that could top this, or lower it depending on how you view it.
