Parkway Drive, or Spirit Fingers are NOT Metal

I saw Parkway Drive on friday night at the Tivoli, in the Valley in Brisbane. They put on a great show. Too short if you ask me, but really intense and much longer probably would have killed everyone from exhaustion. They played awesomely and there were some of the craziest circle pits I've ever seen. Also some of the lamest dancing of all time. Hardcore dancing really makes me shake my head. It looks dumb, you're not cool, in fact you look like a bunch of 7 year olds trying to fight.
But my main problem, it this stupid phenomenon of the crowd throwing their hands into the air and wiggling their fingers around (ala the dance/cheerleading move 'Spirit Fingers') during solos. Probably the single worst thing I've ever seen in my life. I first noticed this at Killswitch Engage at Soundwave this year. I thought it was stupid. Then on friday 90% of the crowd was doing it and I wanted to cry. I made a point of not doing it.
Does anyone know where this comes from? Is it mainly a Parkway thing? If so, it makes me sad that one of the best heavy Australian bands has unleashed this scourge upon the world...
